The Story
Frances is the prime suspect in a murder that everyone at Foxhaven quietly celebrates. Dom Langone was a venture capitalist who destroyed portfolios and friendships with equal enthusiasm, and at the funeral luncheon no one’s crying—they’re at the buffet. None of that helps Frances: an alibi shakier than her tennis backhand, a missing gun her liberal friends don’t know about, and a secret affair with her tennis instructor that only adds to her culpability.
Unwilling to trade her Gucci for an orange jumpsuit, Frances recruits her two best friends—the irreverent Mavens, Ruth and Misty—to find the real killer. Together they shake down Dom’s colleagues, dodge Detectives “Mac” MacBrite and his cheerful rookie partner Andy Hardy at every turn, and uncover a case tangled in money laundering, drug dealing, and a bank account in the Cayman Islands.
The problem is the witnesses. Nobody liked Dom—not his colleagues, not his neighbors, not his wife. Into that fog of universal indifference wade the Mavens, armed with country club gossip and sheer nerve, ensuring the official investigation never quite finds its footing. The police follow procedures. The Mavens use whatever methods they can.
Motive. Means. Two Women From Yoga. Frances Langone Is Either Saved or Doomed. Possibly Both.
