I dropped out of kindergarten, but still learned to read without moving my lips. I studied systems ecology at M.I.T., then entered tidal pools and muck. As a researcher in Sicily, I discovered that Fellini’s portrayal of an eccentric society was understated.
In 2008, I started my first novel as a way to escape reality. My writings, both novels and short stories, are satirical and humorous, highlighting life’s ironies. Obsession, love, inclusion, privilege, and fear fuel the Vinnie Briggs Mysteries series. I draw eccentric characters from real-life encounters, enhanced by worldwide travel and an inordinate fondness for coffee shops.
My early books deal with contemporary issues. Outlier Man explores high school bullying, and Detour Man, like Ice Cream Man, explores obsessions produced by childhood trauma. He Had It Coming is an attempt to emphasize humor.
I enjoy contemporary complex mysteries and thrillers, as well as ludicrous romance novels with happy endings. Humor is a must these days. I love audiobooks — a welcome companion during long-haul travel or short-haul workouts.
